UK wins FISM - World Championships of Magic!

MagicTricks.co.uk is excited to hear the latest magic news announced over the weekend that the next FISM is going to be held in the UK in 2012!

FISM is the Olympics of Magic and the event takes place every 3 years and follows that actual Olympics. It has just finished this weekend in Beijing, China. Where fellow British Magician - Marc Oberon was awarded first place for "Parlour Magic", so congratulation to Marc. He is the creator of the brilliant magic trick Odd Ball.

FISM will be held in the magic capital of the UK - Blackpool! Blackpool has been hosting the largest Magic Convention in the World for over 50 years now and has one of the strongest and most dedicated committees in the country. The event will be held in three different location in Blackpool as it is so large.

MagicTricks.co.uk is hoping that we will have the privilege of appearing at FISM in more than one way...

Harry Potter Premiere Still Brings out young magicians!

Last night was the official release of the latest Harry Potter film -Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and people flocked in their thousands to their local cinemas to get a slice of the action!

Smashing an all time box office record in the USA for takings on opening night, the latest shows figures exceeded $22m!

Harry Potter has inspired young magicians world wide and with the final book set to be split into two films which will be released in 2010 and 2011 the future looks to continue for young magicians.

MagicTricks.co.uk Charity Run!

On Sunday, The Great British 10k London race took place in central London, and MagicTricks.co.uk owner - Charlotte Marie ran the race, along with friend and previous MagicTricks.co.uk owner Wendy Fraser!

Charlotte Marie and Wendy ran the 10k in order to raise money for MagicTricks.co.uk selected charity - The Rainbow Trust. The charity provides practical and emotional support for terminally or critically ill children and their families, they also have two respite care homes which provide well needed breaks for the whole family. The Rainbow Trust almost completely relies on donations and volunteers.

MagicTricks.co.uk produced a charity book several years back in order to raise money for the Rainbow Trust - the book - Everybody's Magic is a truely unique publication from the magic community and includes contributions from famous magicians explaining their favourite tricks. Las Vegas Stage Magician Lance Burton extends contract!

After 13 years of headlining the Monte Carlo Casino in Las Vegas, Lance Burton has extended his contract for another 6 years, so the show will be running through to 2015!

Lance Burton has recently been off stage after he broke his foot five weeks ago while performing, he is due to go back to the show next week assuming his doctor's give the go ahead.

Stage magician - Lance Burton has been with the Monte Carlo Casino since it opened in 1996 and is more than happy to extended his contract despite being paid $100 million for the first 13 years. Lance doesn't seem to be keen to retire from showbiz as he feels employment is a sign of success!

Burton is famous for his card manipulation act as well as performing illusions. He has had several TV specials during his time at the Monte Carlo including a new 4 part series that is due to be aired just before he returns to the stage after his injury.

David Blaine appears on Ellen's TV Show

This weekend, street magician - David Blaine appeared on popular US TV show - Ellen DeGeneres Variety Show.

Blaine took to the streets of Chicago to perform some of his signature street magic tricks like card through window and Healed and Sealed Coke Can.

Magician Wins popular TV show - "Sweden's Got Talent"

Until now, a magic act or magician has never won a public talent show. But that all changed when Swedish Magician - Charlie Caper entered the popular TV show - Sweden's Got Talent. This TV show has been adopted by many different countries and has the same format for every show where contestants perform perform a live audience and three judges.

The Swedish magician performed his award winning act as well as a cups and balls routine which enabled him to win the show. The performed a comedy magic routine mixed with classic magic tricks. He also had a running joke throughout his routines which involved an appearing and vanishing bow tie.

Alex Lourido's Osmosis Pub Trick now available with Heineken label!

Osmosis was the debut release from Alex Lourido and was a popular effect when it was originally released with the Heineken label and then later with a St Paulia beer bottle.

This brilliant pub trick allows you to take a Heineken bottle and push both labels through the bottle onto the inside right in front of the spectators eyes. You can also hand it out for examination after and there is nothing to find! You can even pop the bottle open and pour out a real beer!

However, a couple of years ago, Heineken decided to change the beer's label which meant it was no longer possible for Alex Lourido to create this effect.

MagicTricks.co.uk owners on Britain's Got Talent

Last week you may have seen MagicTricks.co.uk owners on the UK TV series Britain's Got Talent. Keelan Leyser and Charlotte Marie, the British Quick Change Artists and British Magical Grand Prix Champions (Blackpool Magic Convention 2007) appeared on the popular TV show Britain's Got Talent last week on the final show of the auditions.

The British Couple who have been performing their Quick Change Act for the past 3.5 years auditioned for the show back in January. They went straight into the 2nd round after they were head hunted by the shows producers to appear on Britain's Got Talent. They were asked to appear for the first 2 series but had always been working abroad and weren't able to make it back to the UK for the auditions.

In 2009 they were in the UK ( working for MagicTricks.co.uk) , so auditioned at the Hammersmith Apollo, London in front of the three judges; Simon Cowell. Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden and a packed theatre of 4000! They performed a shortened 2 minute version of their usual 8 minute Quick Change Act which went down a storm with the entire audience and all the judges. They received a standing ovation for their quick change act and were put through to the live semi finals of the show. Unfortunately, between the auditions and the live semi finals, the Quick Change Artists received a booking for a tour of India for Sports Channel giant ESPN, so were unable to perform in the live semi finals as the dates clashed! Magician, Alonzo hired by Michael Jackson!

Magicians and Illusionists seem to be the flavour of the year for 2009 for all the superstar singers.

First Britney Spears announces she is using Ed Alonzo, famous US stage magician for her latest tour - "Circus" which began at the start of the year in the States and is coming over to London next month.

Next Michael Jackson announces his plans to use legendary stage magician, David Copperfield in his 50 date London tour which begins later this year, quickly to be corrected, that Copperfield is too expensive and demanded $1 million per show, so was substituted by street magician and recently stage magician, Criss Angel. Now the latest news for the MJ camp is that, Britney's Illusionist, Alonzo, has now been hired to consult of the magic and illusion for Jackson's 50 shows in London. He won't be performing like he is in the "Circus" tour, just planning all the illusions then advising Criss Angel on how to perform them in the actual live show.

We are now waiting for Take That to announce the next big magic act that will be performing with them on their sell out UK tour which starts this summer, also under the name of "Circus"

Young Magician on Britain's Got Talent!

Last Saturday night, Simon Cowell along with the 2 other Britain's Got Talent judges were baffled by young magician from Surrey.

Five year old Thomas, performed a disappearing Crazy Frog in bird cage routine, which left all three judges astounded. So much so the young magician got three "Yes's" and was put through the the next round.

He was inspired when we first saw a magic act in Poole, Dorset and after that became interested in magic, with the support of both his parents. His Dad, even helps out making his props.

The live semi finals of the show start within the next few weeks, so watch this space to see if this little magician makes it all the way!

Magician, Criss Angel rumoured to tour with Michael Jackson!

The US magician, Criss Angel has been rumored to tour with superstar singer Michael Jackson after he apparently has had rows with famous stage magician - David Copperfield.

It has been said that Michael Jackson wants to use lots of illusions in his final farewell tour that is being held in the London O2 arena to make it a visual explosion for the audience. He originally asked David Copperfield to join him in London for the 50 date tour but has reportedly pulled out after Copperfield demanded $1 million per show! David Copperfield had huge success in the 1980's and 1990's and is one of the world's most famous stage magicians.

Criss Angel is said to be delighted at the invite to perform with the singing legend and it doesn't come as a surprise after his solo show has been a huge flop in Las Vegas and has been absolutely slatted by the critics. The US street magician has caused entertainment expert Cirque Du Solei their biggest embarrassment ever! Maybe a little time out of the spotlight and supporting another artist would do Angel the world of good!

The critics have said he isn't ready for this step in his career yet and it comes across on stage! Criss Angel has been made famous by his hit TV series - MindFreak which has recorded four seasons and several TV specials.

Harry Potter Magic soon to return to fans!

Actor, Daniel Radcliffe who plays the famous fictional magician/wizard, that is very popular with young up and coming magicians like the ones that have learnt magic tricks by using the MagicTricks Junior website, has been spotted on the beaches of West Wales this week filming scenes for the final installment of the incredibly successful Harry Potter films.

Daniel and his co-stars have made magic much more appealing to the young generation and inspired many young people to get into magic and see what it is all about. Although Harry Potter, is based on Wizardry it still gives the impression that creating real magic is possible.

Although the next magical chapter is still currently being filmed it means that Potter fans won't have to wait too long for the conclusion of the magic related story to be unraveled!

Just thought I would write a quick note on here to say that we have received a new batch of Tarantulas by Yigal Mesika. They seem to be very popular and customers are raving about them. Hello Again...

As promised in my earlier entry I said I would announce to you the Brand New and Exclusive products that we launched at Blackpool here onto the Blog.

Well there is so many to tell you about I don't know where to begin!

We had a couple of absolute sell outs at Blackpool and the first one that we are proud to introduce to you is -

The feedback we received from customers who bought Glass Mirage previously and also those who bought it at the Convention and tried it out over the weekend, they said they loved how portable it was, how impromptu the performance was and the fact that the spectator's were truly stunned every time they performed it. We also released another of Alex Lourido's amazing effects - Foil Coins (UK 10p) This item is exclusive to MagicTricks.co.uk and works in perfect unison with Silver Impression. For any of you who already have Silver Impression, you know sometimes spectators ask to keep the stretched coin as a souvenir and this is not possible with the Silver Impression as it currently stands. Well Foil Coins change all this. Now when the spectator asks to keep the coin you can give the Foil Coin away as a business card with your name and number written on it.

The Foil Coin is a super stretched 10 pence piece and you can buy them in packs of 8 for just £34.99. We also re-released a couple of Alex's coin tricks in new UK coinage. Butter Coin and Rainbow Coins, these were both released last year in the 10 pence piece but for the Butter Coin, as slightly larger coin like the 50p worked so much better as handling was easier and the gaff coin looks undetectable. The Rainbow Coins were also much better using the 50 pence piece, they looked more visually stunning and impressive when you produce a set of 5 in your hand at the end of your routine.

All of Alex Lourido's products are easy to perform and make coin magic much more accessible to those who have previously avoided using coins thinking it was too difficult to conquer.

Card Attack was another popular effect at Blackpool and has been deemed the next WOW. It allows you to let a spectator select a card and their chosen card burns itself onto a strip of film to produce an X-ray of their card, and in doing that completely wipes all the other cards from the deck.

Blackpool Magic Convention Update

Hi Guys,

Well... after all that preparation Blackpool has been and gone and it proved to be a huge success for MagicTricks.co.uk!

Before I begin the blog we just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Alex Lourido. He was our Superstar! When he arrived a week ago, he arrived as a colleague of ours and now he has left a true friend to us! So Thank You Alex for all your hard work!

We put an awful lot of prep work into Blackpool, being that it was our first time exhibiting we wanted to make an entrance and have been working on this event since November getting bits and pieces ready. I am really happy with how our stand looked and it definitely made an impression in the Dealer's Hall.

The MagicTricks team left for Blackpool last Wednesday as the Dealers Hall is set up the day before the Convention begins, all went well and although we were expecting it only to take a few hours we were there the entire day.

Everyone was really excited when the Dealer's Hall opened on the Friday lunchtime. Although it was open until 10pm, so it was such a long day for all of us, as we were up pretty early to make final adjustments to the stand.

I had been to Blackpool Magic Convention once before when Keelan and I entered the British Magic Championships with our Quick Change Act (which we won by the way) and that was before we took over MagicTricks.co.uk so I didn't really take that much notice, but even for me the amount of dealers and tricks was overwhelming! I think the majority of people who went to the Convention didn't know where to turn or go first. There was so much to see, it was almost impossible to see everything.

By the end of Friday night we were all exhausted, it was a long day of standing and demoing. I really wanted to take Alex out each night as he was over here, but we always ended up just having dinner then straight to sleep as we had early starts on Saturday and Sunday as it opened at 9am.

We didn't manage to see any of the lectures that were happening but we did see the Saturday night competition which was really good and the first half of the Sunday night Gala show which was 2 hours in itself.

After three heavy days on the stand, lots of sales and networking, we were ready to party! So after the first half of the Gala show we headed out to the bars, which was a great source of relief that we had made it through our first year at Blackpool.

We launched some brand new products at Blackpool that we have been working on ourselves and also brought back many new products to put up on the site for you guys to buy.

I will create another entry to introduce the new products to you after we have officially launched them in our email update.

We just want to say a big Thank You to you if you were at Blackpool and came over to the stand, it was great to meet so many of you! I hope you liked our stand and products we had to offer.

Magictricks.co.uk gets Snowed In!

Hello Folks...

Well... what a day it has been! We woke up to find we were thoroughly snowed in here at MagicTricks.co.uk but fortunately, we live close enough to the warehouse for us to be able to walk in, so off we went in order to pack and dispatch the weekend orders.

Shortly after we arrived we were contacted by Royal Mail to inform us that due to the deep snow we would not be receiving our daily collection. We were expecting this to be the case so decided early on that we would have a company trip out to our local Post Office located around half a mile away, in order to prove how dedicated to customer service we really are! You can imagine the excitement of the MagicTricks staff when they heard this news!

Anyway, with the news in mind that most people would be stuck at home and not be able to make it into work, we thought we would send an email update for our customers to inform them of our new magic products and dvd releases, which I will discuss on our blog later in the week, in an effort to melt the winter blues.

Thankfully this seemed to work and we had a fantastic response to our email update.

Also, with today being the 1st February, MagicTricks.co.uk are busy preparing for the fast approaching Blackpool Magic Convention 2009. Although, MagicTricks.co.uk has been established since 1999, it has never exhibited at any Magic Conventions but since Keelan and myself have taken it over, a year ago, we are keen to spread our name and think that Blackpool Magic Convention is an excellent way of introducing ourselves to magicians that may not have been previously aware of us, but we can assure you, by the end of the weekend, a lot more magicians will know about us!


As this is our first Convention so we are excited to be involved in such a large one and are busy working night and day to bring our customers the best magic possible in the most up to date form. We were adamant didn't want to go to the convention looking the same as everyone else, selling the same products as everyone else, and just blending into the background, so for anyone who is going to the Blackpool Magic Convention, be sure to know that MagicTricks.co.uk will be entering with a bang! We have lots of surprises in store for all the magicians. Some of which we will be announcing to our email update subscribers and others which will be revealing at the Convention itself!
